TARGETS
When you write about your own work (www and ebi) you need to look more closely and work out exactly what it is that you do well and what needs to be improved. At the moment you always write the same thing. The best place to start is the aims of the task. Do you meet the success criteria?
Keep on top of the analysis of other photographers- use the sentence starters to help you.
Check your exposure- do you know what to do if your camera is over or underexposed

Look Up
In this task I had to take a set of photos facing up towards the sky. I chose to take photos of different trees with different shades in a park.
Mirroring and Reflectingin this task i developed a set of photos that I had taken previously and mirrored them so they looked like a pattern.
WWW: What I had done well was I paired the photos up well together so they look "natural" in a way
EBI: Something I could have done better on was I could've completed two more reflections in time
Four Composition Types
Composition at home
Best Examples
WWW: What I did well was being able to focus the camera properly for my compositions
EBI: I could improve on finding different ways to explore each composition in more interesting ways

Framing
In this task I was required to take a set of photos using a mirror to reflect what wouldn't have been captured with the camera with out it. the reflection shows whats behind.
Set 1
WWW: We captured a clear image of the background and fit it all in the mirror
EBI: The angles of the mirror could be more straight to get a more aesthetic focus on the enviroment behind

Set 2
WWW: We got good framing of the focus of the subject we were trying to capture in the mirror
EBI: To try and find a way to not get hands in the capture of the image

Formal Elements
Formal elements helps with the way you capture your image in a photograph. Compositions help with this by representing any element you want to achieve.
Lines is an element. Lines in photography are taken by the photgrapher to draw the viewers eye towards an interesting point. These lines can guide the viewers eye to different directions in the photograph.
|
Colour is a formal element. The use of colour in a photograph not only attracts the viewer’s eye and creates more of a story but it also helps with composition which also grabs the eye’s attention
|
Contrast is an element which is the difference between the lightest subject in the photo and the darkest subject in the photo
|
Another element is form. Form is when the shade and light mix to create a depth in the subject the photographer is taking a photo of. It captures a 3 dimensional object which would look like a 2D shape without adding a form element to the photo
|
In this task, I was required to take a range of photos using the seven formal elements.
Lines
Patterns
Textures
Tone
Contrast
Colour
Form

WWW: I found a range of photos to explain each formal element. I perticulary liked my contrast photo of the tree because it really portrays the distinction between the tree and the background.
EBI: I found it challenging to be able to distinguish the difference in tone and contrast. To not have this problem i could do more research into these two forms to have a better understanding and not to get confused.
Independent Development
The idea I am choosing for independent development is "Beauty in decay" I am going to take a range of photos of decaying elements - focusing on graffiti. Then, I will print out all the photos and make a collage with them all together, creating a bigger aspect of decay.
Here are a range of photos I was inspired by. The decaying buildings with out the graffiti are taken by "Left London". Left London is a photographer called William Eckersley. The photos I have shown are from a topic that Eckersley did where he took photos of abandoned buildings from his home town, London, over a twelve month period.
My Response
Development 1
In this development I decided to take photos of graffiti in a park called, Ally Pally as I was trying to copy the photos of decaying graffiti in the examples shown above.
WWW: What went well was that I found interesting art work on the side of the wall with good ranges of colours
EBI: To improve, I could take more of a range of close up photos of graffiti

WWW: I got good detail when I zoomed in on the photos and I found graffiti with a range of different colours
EBI: I could take some more close up photos and work on focusing on the image
Development 2
In this set, I took the close up photos as before, I hadn't focused just on close ups, therefore, losing the aim to make the photo seem abstract.
WWW: What went well was that I got a good focus on the close ups this time and found a good range of colours.
EBI: I could do better by taking more abstract, close up photos of the graffiti

Development 3
For this task I decided to print out some of the close up photos of graffiti and make different types of collages out of them. I had ripped up small pieces from the papers and glued them together in different ways.
The person I was inspired by was, Mimmo Rotella. Rotella was born in Catanzaro, 7th October 1918. He was an Italian artist and considered an important figure in post-war European art. Rotella studied at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Naples before moving to Rome in 1945. Following a residency at Kansas City University in 1951–52, Rotella had come back to Rome where he became a part of artists known as the 'Piazza de Popolo'. The group explored the aesthetics of American pop art. Rotella quickly abandoned painting for a new experimental practice, producing his first 'décollages' by gluing to canvas strips and fragments of advertising posters ripped from the city walls. Upon the invitation of the art critic Pierre Restany, Rotella joined the Noveau Réalisme movement in 1961, then moving to Paris three years later. In Milan, 1980's, Rotella created his blanks, covering ripped posters with sheets of paper. Later on he did his 'Sovrapitture', where he painted on top of advertisements. Here is some of his work.

MY RESPONSE
WWW: I had no straight edges on the ripped up pieces so it looked more abstract like Rotella's work
EBI: Use a better technique of how small I should tear the pieces and to stick them down all in the same direction. To still be able to show the full sheet in the background.

Development Four
In this development, I had gone back to where the graffiti in my previous photos were and took more close up and abstract photos of the graffiti
WWW: What went well in this development was that i was able to take more close up images of graffiti and capture a good range of colours
EBI: What I could have done better was I could have found different graffiti areas rather than taking some of the same photos but in different angles

WWW: What I had done well on was being able to make the colours of the graffiti stand out and appeal to the eye
EBI: I could improve on cropping out some bits of the photo which takes away the photo of the main subject |
